Pullets
We do the hard part for you! We offer the option to raise the pullets until they are 4-5 weeks old. At this age they are starting to feather out, require less heat, and are easier to take care of. During the warmer months, at this age, they are generally ready to live outside.
We live south of Pueblo. You can pick your pullets up from our Ranch or we can make arrangements to meet in Pueblo or occasionally the Springs.
Either way we will have them boxed up waiting for you!
We order PULLETS ONLY, unless otherwise stated.
We order our chicks from a number of hatcheries and breeders. We have made our decisions based on years of "research" into quality, availability, survival rate when shipping and several other factors. Mainly we choose to order chicks from places that do NOT destroy the male chicks.
***If we are meeting in Pueblo or the Springs... and now as far north as Cheyenne!***
+We require a minimum order of 5 pullets. No exceptions!! (for delivery only)
+The total must be paid in full prior to delivery
+ Deposits (50% of the total) are non refundable
+ We offer limited trips to Colorado Springs and further north

***IMPORTANT*** PLEASE READ
We are a small family "business" We have kids, critters, chores, jobs etc.
We TRY to be available at convenient times when our critters are ready to go home.
- If you agree to a day and time to pick up your critters PLEASE show up, if you don't it stresses the animals. We will catch your critters and have them boxed up and ready to go when you get here. Sitting in a box for an extended amount of time can be hazardous to their health :-(

Barred Rocks
Black Australorps
Black Australorps will start laying as early as 5 to 6 months of age. They are an excellent layer of large brown eggs. "225-250 eggs per year". If you are looking for a "production bird" this is one of the breeds that we offer that is close to fitting that description. They are very cold hardy, making them great in the cold weather. Australorps also do well in the heat, not slowing down in their egg production in extreme weather. They are also a great dual purpose bird, hens will weigh around 6 lbs.
|
Buff Orpington
This breed is a great producer of medium to large, light brown eggs. "250- 280 eggs per year". They are a cold hardy bird and do tend to be broody. This breed is very docile. Buff Orpingtons are one of the best dual purpose birds that you can get for the money. Hens weigh about 8lbs. This bird is very cost effective if you keep your hens for eggs the first your, slaughter them around 2 years of age and replace them with new chicks.
|
Ameraucana/Easter Eggers
These are Easter Eggers, not Araucana chickens.
These pullets come in many colors, have puffy cheeks and a beard, they will also have tail feathers. They should start laying around 6-7 months of age. They are an efficient producer of large colorful (pale blue, pink, green or light brown) eggs. "250-300 eggs a year". They are a docile breed and do well in cold weather. Hens will weigh between 5 and 6 lbs. |
Light Brahma
Light Brahmas have small pea comb, lots of full/thick feathers and feathered legs, making them extremely cold hardy birds. They are probably the best multi purpose bird that we offer. They are good producers of medium to large brown eggs "200-240 eggs a year". Hens weigh from 8-10 pounds, making them a great meat bird. These chickens are very gentle making them a great backyard breed.

Rhode Island Reds
Cinnamon Queens
Cinnamon Queens will start laying much earlier than most of the other breeds that we offer, as early as 5 to 6 months of age. They are a high volume producer of large brown eggs. "250-300 eggs per year". If you are looking for a "production bird" this is one of the breeds that we offer that will most closely fit that description!Cinnamon Queens are cold hardy, which means they do very well during our winters in the higher elevation, they also do well in the heat of our summers. They are very docile, add some nice color to a small flock and are dual purpose with hens generally laying around 6lbs.
|
Cuckoo Marans
Cuckoo Marans are considered a "rare breed'. They are a fast growing bird and should start laying a little earlier than most of the other breeds we normally offer. Probably around 6 months of age. They will produce a dark brown egg, sometimes with speckles. They should produce around "200 eggs per year". Cuckoo Marans are also a cold hearty bird and do well in our climate. They are a great dual purpose bird, hens will weigh between 6 and 9 lbs.
|
Speckled Sussex
The Speckled Sussex should start laying around 7 months of age (possibly earlier depending on their living conditions!) They will lay a medium to large, light brown egg. "200+ eggs per year". They are a broody breed and also calm for those of you who are looking for pets or even just hens that your little ones will want to be around. They are very cold hardy.......they are good in cold weather and their unique color makes them a great free range chicken, helping them to blend into their surroundings. Hens will weigh about 7 lbs, also making them a great dual purpose bird.
|
Turkens/ Naked Necks
The turken is NOT a cross between a chicken and a turkey. They originally came from Hungary, bred with less feathers to tolerate the heat better and making them easier to pluck. We have found that they also tolerate the cold weather well.
They will lay LARGE (maybe even extra large) brown eggs, about 200+ a year. They should start laying as early as 5 months. I think they are UGLY (my mom loves them) but they are the best layers, very docile and if you are in to it, they taste good too!! |
Welsummers
Welsummers are a very hardy bird that does well in our climate. As with most of the other breeds we offer they should start laying right around 7 months. They will lay medium to large dark brown egg (sometimes with speckles) approximately "175-200 a year". (we have found that ours tend to lay more than that) Welsummers are also very docile and make a great backyard chicken. Hens normally weigh about 6 to 7 lbs.
|
Golden Laced Wyandottes
These birds should start laying around 7 months. They are a good producer of medium to large brown eggs. "200+ eggs per year". They are a very cold hardy bird and can be broody. They are a dual purpose bird weighing about 6 lbs.

Barnyard Mix...**STRAIGHT RUN ONLY**
Our Barnyard Mix should produce anything from a nice olive egg to a dark shade of brown or even a nice blue tint. We have found that our Barnyard Mix are typically a good to excellent producer of medium to large sized eggs.
These chicks come from a variety of blue and brown egg layers. They could be the product of a Welsummer or Whiting True Blue rooster and any of the following breed hens: Ameraucana, Beilefelder, Easter Egger, Marans, Welsummer and Whiting True Blue. Occasionally, there might be another breed that stood out to us in our basic egg flock that we decided to throw in! |
Beilefelder...***Pullets ONLY***
Olive Eggers...**STRAIGHT RUN ONLY**
One of our NEW projects!! Olive Eggers are a cross between a DARK BROWN egg producer and a BLUE egg producer. Such as a Black Copper Marans rooster and an Ameraucana hen or a Welsummer rooster and a Cream Legbar hen. This crossing will produce a chick that will lay an "olive" colored egg.
Our first goal is to produce a chicken that fits our requirements of being, cold hardy, efficient layer, docile and dual purpose. Our second goal is to produce unique coloring in our eggs. So far we have been pretty successful!! |

Whiting True Blue...**STRAIGHT RUN ONLY**
We have found our True Blues to be an excellent producer of large blue eggs. We have a small flock which allows us to focus on the quality of our birds. We have found that this breed is very docile, does well in our climate, they are a pretty bird but they are not the best birds to use for meat. The feathers from this breed are used in many crafts and for tying flies.
